September is an exciting month on the Campus of History every year...

...and that's even more true in 2016. This fall we are offering the community a new exhibition and a fresh look at what is the most compelling idea in our nation’s history: our collective quest for freedom throughout the American experience. FREEDOM: to secure the Blessings of Liberty explores the stories of Lancastrians who sought freedom, fought for freedom, lived in freedom, and were denied freedom over the course of 300 years. They are the stories of hope, joy, struggle, and survival from the beginning of William Penn’s “Holy Experiment” to the 21st Century. The exhibition opens on September 24, and I hope you’ll visit LancasterHistory.org to learn more.

As we continue to study the past, we are looking toward the future. Our five-year strategic plan will guide us as we strengthen our core assets and develop additional engaging ways to explore our community’s history, including:

• Enhanced opportunities for visitors to experience the Esprit Quilt Collection,
• Nationally-significant academic symposia,
• New family-friendly programs and spaces for exploration,
• Better access for all visitors, including multi-language materials and tours,
• A new Visitor Orientation Film,
• Research on the life and legacy of First Lady Harriet Lane,
• New Collections Management Software to make research easier here and from your home, and
• Important capital improvements at President James Buchanan’s Wheatland.

At the very heart of each of these projects lies your commitment to LancasterHistory.org. You are the foundation of our efforts to ensure that the work of history continues and engages more of our citizens, and I am profoundly grateful for your support of our work these last few years. Your gift helps create an array of public education programs, and I hope you will consider lending your support this year by making a gift to the Annual Campaign for Lancaster County History.

To make your gift to the Annual Campaign, all you need to do is click the image below to make a secure payment by credit card or set up a regular monthly donation via PayPal. As always, you will have until June 30, 2017, to fulfill your pledge.

We are so grateful for your support and commitment to excellent history programming, and we look forward to seeing you here on the Campus of History, downtown at our 4 West King Street gallery on the square, or out and about enjoying the bounty of American history right here in our community!
