Volunteer in Curatorial

Volunteer positions in Curatorial include:

  • Cataloger
  • Data Entry
  • Researcher
  • Quilt Turning Assistant

Cataloger

  • Description: Volunteers will identify and describe historic objects.
  • Skills Required: Strong research, writing, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, as well as with staff in other departments. 
  • Training/Education/Experience Required: Requires substantial knowledge of decorative arts and/or Lancaster County history. Preference will be given to applicants who are actively pursuing a career in museums, history, conservation, or the decorative arts.
  • Payroll Status: Volunteer (unpaid)
  • Schedule: Contact supervisor Wendell Zercher for more information.

 

Data Entry

  • Description: Volunteers enter catalog information into collections management database, PastPerfect.
  • Skills Required: Strong research, writing, organizational, computer and communication skills. Ability to work independently, as well as with staff in other departments. Requires proficinecy with computers and typing.
  • Training/Education/Experience Required: Preference will be given to applicants who are actively pursuing a career in museums, history, conservation, collections management, or the decorative arts.
  • Payroll Status: Volunteer (unpaid)

Researcher

  • Description: Volunteers will assist curator in the research of topics and objects that may be used to identify objects and provide research for exhibit creation.
  • Skills RequiredStrong research, writing, organizational, computer and communication skills. Ability to work independently, as well as with staff in other departments. Requires proficinecy with computers and typing.
  • Training/Education/Experience Required: Preference will be given to applicants who are actively pursuing a career in museums, history, or the decorative arts.
  • Payroll Status: Volunteer (unpaid)

Quilt Turning Assistant

  • Description: Volunteers will assist curator in showing quilts during White Glove Tours. 
  • Skills Required: Strong communication skills. Ability to work with staff and with patrons. Requires standing on your feet for 1 - 2 hours depending on length of tour.
  • Training/Education/Experience Required: Preference will be given to applicants who are actively pursuing a career in museums, history, or the decorative arts.
  • Payroll Status: Volunteer (unpaid)
